Client Spotlight Interview: People, Places, and Dreams

Written by Kathy Dise | Nov 28, 2022 4:49:22 PM

Please meet Nafisah Alim, Founder and Executive Director of People, Places, and Dreams--a minority-owned, for-profit Mental Health and Substance Use Agency, accredited by OHMAS.  BudgetEase’s expertise in working with Treatment Centers makes our collaboration with People, Places, and Dreams impactful. BudgetEase is so grateful for Nafisah and her team’s work to help those challenged with addiction.

Tell us more about your business:

Started in 2019, People, Places, and Dreams (PPD) supports and encourages the substance use and mental health community, while engaging in ongoing treatment or therapy to increase positive clinical outcomes. It is a peer-run organization that provides collaborative supportive services and programming including:

  • Substance Use Outpatient Treatment,
  • Recovery Housing,
  • Rose Quartz Comprehensive Women’s Program,
  • MID Program, a Marijuana Harm Reduction Program, and
  • Peer Professional Development and Training.

Their Recovery Houses offer an environmental change while prioritizing treatment. PPD’s focus is on marginalized populations such as minorities, women, LGBTQ+, chronically homeless, co-occurring, and low-income individuals. The Peer Training program extends opportunities for our guests.

What is your biggest challenge?

Our challenge has been figuring out how to navigate as a growing new business during Covid and after Covid.

Because of the needs in our community managing our growth is a challenge.  Next year, we will open The Peer Center for Health and Wellness, a nonprofit Recovery Community Organization, to provide a safe place for peer supporters and those with substance abuse and mental health issues to meet, share a cup of coffee, have access to Wi-Fi, enjoy an array of social activities, and access resources to critical treatment services--all in one physical space.

What led you to BudgetEase?

I was referred when I was in the Goldman Sachs 10,000+ Small Business.

Why do you find having someone else do your bookkeeping helpful?

This is helpful so I can spend time and energy tending to other parts of my business. This has been extremely beneficial to us since BudgetEase started to organize our books.
