How Do I Love Thee? Appreciation for Your Bookkeeper

Feb 7, 2021 12:45:00 PM Kathy Dise Small Business, Bookkeeping

valentine's dayAs Valentine's Day approaches, we think of those we love. We buy them chocolates -- or diamonds! -- and maybe go on a date (or get takeout during the pandemic). This year, how about showing some love for your bookkeeper? Since you're a small business owner, you need to be smart about your expenses, and your bookkeeper understands that. So, profess your appreciation in words. So, how do you love thee, bookkeeper? Here we count the ways:

1. You Give Me the Gift of Time

As a business owner, my time is my most critical asset. I could spend the time reconciling my accounts, or I could use that time to handle growth projects, assess my operations for efficiency, or just go out to lunch. I love that.

2.  You Save Me Money

Of course I pay you, and that costs me money. But your experience and accuracy save me from making costly accounting mistakes that can cost me even more in the future. Investing in you is investing in me. Win, win.

3. You Were There When I Needed You Most

Weekly and monthly bookkeeping and balancing is always valuable to me, but when I was starting up and needed to ensure I set up my accounts and tracking properly, you were there for me. You took on the role of financial organizer so I could stay focused on growing. Without you I wouldn't be where I am today.

4. You Take All the Little Pictures and Show Me the Big Picture

There are so many ways that money flows in and out of my business, from little things like new paperclips to big things like adding a new employee, and you take all of those pieces of information and paint them together. You give me the information I need to see the big picture and make informed decisions without getting bogged down in all the little bits. That's pretty darn valuable.

5. You Let Me Do the Thing I Love

I got in this business for a reason, and it wasn't because I love doing the books. You allow me to focus on the stuff I'm good at, the stuff that keeps me going, the stuff I was meant to do. That is worth its weight in gold.

Bookkeeper, You Are My Valentine

If you have a bookkeeper you love, feel free to share this ode with them. If you don't, then maybe it's time to fall in love. We have a team of bookkeepers that can help you find a love like this. Call us today!
